Why I Don’t Like Tumblr “Commenting”
The notion that it’s better to have tumblr “comments” as entries in your own tumblog seems ridiculous to me. To proponents of this perspective, why do you think all the people following my RSS feed should be forced to care about a comment I make to some random Tumblr post? If I read, say, a certain economics blog on a regular basis, I don’t want to see a comment that economist leaves on his or her sister’s “family blog” about what to do when your infant has diarrhea. The sister might want to read it; the sister’s friends that are parents might also want to read it; people that are not related by blood to this sister that are following the “family blog” might also want to read it; 99% of the people following the economics blog, however, do not want to read it. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth sharing, but denying the ability of an “author” to target their thoughts to different portions of an audience is not the answer.
Due to the unfortunate nature of tumblr “comments,” and in order to preserve the sanity of the people that read my tumblog via RSS, I’ve created this separate tumblr account to make comments from.
